Understanding Safari At The Quarry

A private for-profit company Live Wire Media LLC (Contact: Brad Hoffman) has entered into a contract to create an off-road vehicle park at the Connelly Mill property located in Salisbury. Events planned to run at this site include: "Jeeps at the Quarry", "Open Wheeling", "Quads at the Quarry", and "Broncos at the Quarry". Dates are To Be Determined (TBD) and are tentative for Spring, Summer, Fall 2024. Additional dates may be completed by mutual consent of the County and Live Wire Media LLC.

Key Concerns and Impacts

• The events are designed for off-road enthusiasts, excluding all others and violating the original vision of low-impact recreation.
• Participants can navigate various trails and obstacles in off-road vehicles. This directly contradicts the advice from the Wicomico Natural Resource Conservation Advisory Committee (NRCAC) to protect the watersheds of the Wicomico River.
• While the initial event is Jeep-specific, future events are planned to include a wider range of off-road vehicles. These broader events will have even more detrimental ecological impacts.
• Once the Contract/MOU was signed for these off-road events, the planned Connelly Mill Park was removed from the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and the Tri-County County Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS).
